Why?
Because I love buying books, flipping through them and politely putting them on the shelf to decorate my place. Technical books are the worst because I know that they have such great secrets inside that would make me a better, more educated (fill in the blank). Since sewing is my newest passion, I figured I should start reading up so maybe I can get better faster. We shall see…

Technical Book 1: Tailoring
Started: 10/1 – 10/24
Highly Recommended
When I first took my tailoring class it was a bit frustrating for me because I didn’t know why my teacher was doing certain things. Everything just seemed convoluted and complex and I sometimes doubted the need for things because the directions seemed simpler than what I was doing.
Reading Tailoring has brought the understanding that I sought for so long. The detailed pictures and instructions really helped me to grasp the different step and also to understand that the Big Four and most other patterns are strictly built for home seamstresses and you need to analyze and add the tailoring details.
The biggest benefit was learning about the tailoring using fusible interfacing alternative method. This alternative makes me feel a little better about tailoring because the custom method is pretty intense.
Things I learned:
- Fusible Interfacing tailoring method
- I need pinking shears
- What a sleeve head was and why you needed it
- Using a piece of paper under the the edge to prevent impressions on the fabric underneath
- How to install piping and a hidden pocket – two techniques that I have to incorporate soon because they are so cool!
